The Earl Reed Athletic Complex serves as the home of Morgan County High School football, track and field, and cross country. Opened in 2017, the facility stands as one of the premier athletic venues in eastern Kentucky and serves as a centerpiece for Cougar athletics and the Morgan County community.
The complex is named in honor of Earl Reed, a dedicated educator and administrator who devoted more than 40 years of service to the Morgan County School District. Throughout his distinguished career, Reed served as a teacher, counselor, principal, and superintendent, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students, staff, and families. The naming of the facility recognizes his unwavering commitment to education and the Morgan County community.
Located within the complex is Don McKenzie Field, the home field of the Morgan County Cougar football program. The field is named in memory of Don McKenzie, a beloved community leader whose influence on Morgan County athletics and youth sports spanned more than four decades. McKenzie dedicated countless hours to coaching and mentoring young athletes through youth football and baseball programs, helping shape the lives of generations of Morgan County children.
Beyond his contributions to athletics, McKenzie was the longtime owner of McKenzie Pool Room, a Morgan County institution that became a gathering place for residents and visitors from across eastern Kentucky. Known for his generosity, friendly personality, and unwavering support of local youth and community organizations, McKenzie left a legacy that extends far beyond the playing field.
Today, Don McKenzie Field serves as the home of Morgan County Football, providing a venue where Cougar athletes compete while honoring the memory of a man whose passion for community and commitment to young people helped define Morgan County for generations.
In addition to football, the Earl Reed Athletic Complex hosts Morgan County's track and field and cross country programs. The facility provides student-athletes with a first-class venue for training and competition while also serving as a site for regional athletic events and community activities throughout the year.
More than just an athletic facility, the Earl Reed Athletic Complex represents the pride, tradition, and excellence of Morgan County Schools. It stands as a tribute to the educators, coaches, and community leaders who helped build the foundation of the school district while providing opportunities for future generations of Cougars to compete, grow, and succeed.
